Welcome to Dates and Grapes!
Blogging is very new to me but I am being encouraged to try by my husband, Mark, who is fed up of me going on about food, recipes and all things delicious to only him! So, here it goes…
I am Kirsty, a primary school teacher who adores all things food. Originally from Glasgow, Scotland I have spent much of my life travelling. After qualifying in Scotland, I moved to the Middle East with my husband, working in Qatar for two years and then, most recently, moving to the U.A.E. (Ras Al Khaimah) where we live currently.
Much of my inspiration and love of cooking has come from my family and in particular, my mum. Growing up there was always a weekly food menu stuck to our fridge featuring meals from all over the world. As a child there were times my brother and I would be so jealous when we visited our friend’s houses and got what we considered ‘normal’ dinners of soups and scones or spaghetti Bolognese, only to return home to a menu of skate wings with a caper butter or kedgeree (my dad’s all time favourite!)
However, I now appreciate how lucky we were and always look forward to visiting home for some yummy treats. Home for my parents now is in Burgundy, France where they have continued to develop their passion for food by opening their own artisanal smokehouse. I love visiting and being a taste tester for them and their new recipes!
I hope you enjoy my blog, please feel free to leave any comments or advice!
