Before we made the decision to move to the U.A.E. we spent a lot of time looking for potential jobs, not only in Dubai but also in the surrounding emirates. My dad, having worked here when we were younger, had an opinion on every emirate and on hearing that we had applied for a job in Ajman, it was…
Ajman?! It’s miles away from anywhere, completely in the sticks! Why would you ever want to go there, you won’t enjoy it?
Well, we did opt against the job in Ajman but Dad, things have obviously changed in the emirate since you were here! Now, a mere 40 minute drive from the centre of Dubai and you arrive at The Ajman Saray, a beautiful hotel looking out over the Arabian Gulf. It was the location of choice for a recent celebratory event held by our school and we couldn’t have asked for better.
I’ll be honest with you and admit that it wasn’t initially my first choice, mainly because I had never really looked into, well… anything… in Ajman! However, after looking at depressingly high hotel rates and prices in Dubai it was a welcome relief to stumble across something more affordable but still within a beautiful venue and location.
For our event we hired out the ballroom, a beautiful room which can suit many different occasions as it can be split into smaller rooms depending on the function. It also has it’s own seperate entrance from the main hotel which, as well as being convenient, also adds a touch of extra specialness!
We had a 3 course sit down meal before dancing the night away and it was delicious! Especially as, for the hotel, it was their first time to serve a sit down meal for 100 people. It was so good, I actually forgot to take any pictures as I was too busy eating! The starters were light and fresh and I especially enjoyed my chicken main course as the mushroom sauce was extremely flavoursome and really complimented the chicken along with the polenta. Our menu was:
We were also offered a very reasonable group rate to stay at the hotel which included taxes, breakfast and complimentary in-room wifi. The rooms are beautiful, well appointed with gorgeous views looking out over the sea.
I even managed to squeeze in a wee visit to the spa, where I was greeted by very friendly staff and a lovely welcome drink before my hair was transformed from it’s usual mess into something acceptable for a special event!
As well as the ballroom, the hotel also have a range of bars and restaurants which can cater for different events. I particularly liked Bab Al Bahr, a rooftop bar which can be hired out for smaller, private events and parties.
However, as I’m sure most people will agree, it is the staff who can really make or break things. The staff at the Ajman Saray were wonderful – from valet, to reception, to restaurants, to the beach – everyone had a friendly smile and they were all willing to help in any way they could. Highest praise must go to Ayesha Curmally, the sales manager who was my constant liaison for our event and was always there to listen to my ideas and turn them into reality. She worked tirelessly to make sure that everything ran smoothly on the night and, in turn, it made my night a lot more enjoyable.
I would not hesitate to recommend the Ajman Saray, either for special events or just for a wee getaway! Now I just need to work out how to persuade Mark to take me back there again soon!
